The Early Word - G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
At first there was doubt that this Hasbro toy line could make the jump to the big screen as successfully as the Transformers did. Paramount Pictures, the studio releasing the movie, has been fighting mixed reactions to the trailers from fans of the original cartoon, along with false rumors of creative disputes and bad reactions from test screenings.
Now Paramount is causing a stir by not screening the movie for critics before it goes into theaters

SIENNA MILLER turned down the role of the Baroness in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra when it was first offered to her, saying it was not her kind of film.
But the 27-year-old star of mainly small-budget productions such as Factory Girl and Alfie says reading the script convinced her this action blockbuster would be a good career move.
‘‘Initially when I was offered the project I said, ‘Absolutely no way,’’’ she says at end of a long day promoting the film in Sydney.

To coincide with the release of the identically named film, GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra tells the simple story of GI Joe shooting bad people. The baddies in question are pumped full of "nano machines" to explain why they conveniently evaporate postmortem and engaging them takes the form of a depressingly dull series of gunfights.

‘G.I. Joe’s’ Tatum, Miller get candid
We flew to Japan to attend the Tokyo premiere of the explosive big-screen adaptation of “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” at LaLaport Toyosu’s luxurious United cineplex.
To say the least, action fans will have a field day basking in the heady thrills of the film’s frenetic, high-speed action and the mind-numbing, CG-fueled spectacle that director Stephen Sommers has created. Eat your hearts out, autobots and decepticons—and we mean it!

New G.I. Joe clips
Stephen Sommers and his CGI hammer are about your wallop your face with the human action cartoon G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA, but what do we REALLY know about Joe, yo?
Fortunately the makers of the movie have put together a little history of the G.I. JOE character/product, from the doll with the kung fu grippage right through the violent animated series where everyone shot at each other with color-coded laser but nobody ever died. Prepare yourself with some JOE background, and a couple of action sequences complete with rubbery digital stuntmen and silver bouncy suits, before you check out the flick August 7th.
